Interviews, applications and assessments

Interviews, applications and assessments

For some courses, we'll need to assess your level to see if the course is at the right level for you, before you can enrol. Depending on the course, you might need to have a chat with us via an interview, fill out an application form, or have an audition or take an assessment.

City Lit Application system

We use the Apply system to manage the student application process for our accredited and advanced courses that require assessment of your knowledge or skill to enrol on the course.

Guidance for applicants using the Apply system can be found within the system on the ‘New Applicants guidance’:

Depending on the specific course application process you may be required to complete the following:

An application form
Once you have created a user account you will be able to complete an application form. The application form may vary depending on the course subject and level. You will be able to start the application, save and return to complete later if you are unable to complete in one sitting.
An assessment
In addition to an application form some courses may require you to complete an assessment. This could be part of the overall application process as separate tasks, or may be an exercise in person. This will help determine the skills and knowledge you have and whether this a match with the relevant course. Some courses may have formal assessment days that are booked in advance and advertised during the application process.

An interview
After your application form has been submitted and reviewed by a City Lit staff member, we may wish to discuss your application with you. In this case you’ll receive an email with the details of how to book. Interviews may be conducted in person or online. For some courses you will be able to book your own interview slot using the Microsoft Bookings service. This link will be sent to you from the Apply system and allow you to book an available slot.

A successful interview or audition does NOT guarantee you a space on a course, so it's worth securing your place by booking without delay once you've been given the go-ahead to book, to avoid any disappointment.

Securing your place on a course

Once you’ve been approved for your course, you’ll want to book and enrol as soon as you can to secure your place, as places are offered on a first come, first served basis.

If you are using the Apply system, then you will receive an email with details of the offer and how to proceed.

If not, you can check the ‘Assessment section’ in your City Lit website account and once you’ve been approved, you’ll be able to book online, in person, or by telephone.
