Post results information for GCE and GCSE exams

These post results services are available for students sitting GCE/GCSE exams this summer.

Access to Scripts

If you would like to see your script to decide whether to request a Review of Results, please contact the Exams Office as soon as possible.

This request must be made to exam board within two weeks of you receiving your GCE or GCSE results.

Service 1 (Clerical re-check)

This is a re-check of all clerical procedures leading to the issue of a result.

This service will include the following checks:

  • that all parts of the script have been marked;
  • the totalling of marks;
  • the recording of marks.

The outcome of the clerical re-check will be reported along with a statement of the total marks awarded for each unit, or component, included in the enquiry.

Service 2 (Review of marking)

This is a post-results review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly.

A marking error can occur because of:

  • an administrative error;
  • a failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answer;
  • an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement.

The awarding body will train its reviewers to conduct reviews of marking accurately and consistently. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.

This service will include:

  • the clerical re-checks detailed in Service 1;
  • a review of marking as described above.

Priority Service 2 (Review of marking)

This service is as Service 2. However, it is only available if a GCE A-level candidate or a Level 3 Principal Learning candidate’s place in higher education is dependent on the outcome.

Any applications not meeting these criteria will be treated as normal Service 2 requests.

The awarding body will train its reviewers to conduct reviews of marking accurately and consistently. Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.

Please note: There is no grade protection with Review of Results.

Grade protection does not apply to any post-review services that include a review of marking. This means that your marks and subject grades may be lowered, confirmed or raised as a result.

Where there has been a reduction in marks or a downgrade following a review of marking, the request cannot be revoked and the original mark or grade will not be reinstated.
