How to use our Library System

We use a system called Simple Little Library to track items loaned and returned to the Student Centre & Library at City Lit. Here are a few frequently asked questions about how to use the system.

Access the Library System

Do I have to log in?

If you would like to just browse our Library catalogue or access links to our online resources you do not have to log into Simple Little Library. If you would like to reserve or renew an item you will need to log in.

How do I browse the library catalogue?

Do I have to be a City Lit student to use the Library?

Yes, you have to be enrolled on a City Lit course in the current academic year to join the Library, loan out items or use the computers in the Student Centre.

How do I join the library?

Once you have enrolled onto a City Lit course we will automatically create a City Lit student IT account for you. You will have this account for the full academic year (September to August). To join the library you just need to log into the Simple Little Library System with your City Lit IT account. If you are unsure of how to do this please come to the Student Centre and Library and our Student Service Team will be happy to help you.

How do I log in?

We use a single sign-on for the Library system, this means that if you are into your City Lit IT account and then click on this link it will automatically log you in: Home - Simple Little Library System

If you aren't logged into your City Lit IT account you can click the "Sign in" button in the top right and then log in as you usually do to you City Lit IT account.

How do I loan an item?

To loan an item you will need to come to the Student Centre & Library in person. The Student Services Team will be able to help you find the item you are looking for and loan this out to you. Items are loaned for 28 days.

Can I renew an item online?

Yes, once you are logged in you can renew any of your items online one time. After one online renewal you will need to bring the items to the Student Centre and Library desk to renew them, please take a look at our opening times before you travel: Opening Hours

Do you have any e-resources that I can access from home?

Yes, we have a list of Useful Links on the home page of the Library System, click here and you will see them on the left side: Home - Simple Little Library System

These resources are only accessible to current City Lit students and they also use the Single Sign On so if you aren't already logged into your City Lit IT account you will be prompted to do this, once you are logged in you'll be able to access them all.
