How do I access City Lit Google Classroom?

To access any Google Classroom resources available for your course(s), you first need to activate your City Lit Student IT account. You can find the steps to do this by visiting the Your City Lit Student IT account page. Once your account is activated, you can access Google Classroom directly through Office.com or Classroom.google.com.

How do I switch Accounts on Google Classrooms to my City Lit Account?

If you have a personal Google account, when accessing Google Classroom sometimes that may be the default account. To Switch Accounts to your City Lit Student account follow these steps: Switching from a personal Google account to your City Lit Google account

Will City Lit Google Classroom be available for my upcoming course?

Only for some courses. If your tutor has set up Google Classroom as a part of the delivery of your course, an invite to join will be sent to you by e-mail. Some courses, especially if they are very practical, do not use Google Classroom. Contact your Tutor to confirm if Google Classroom is needed.

Do I need to have City Lit Google Classroom Account to join a City Lit online course?

No, City Lit online courses are taught via Zoom. You do not need to have access to Google Classroom to join your Zoom sessions. A link for the Zoom sessions, with a security passcode, will be sent to your personal e-mail address the day before your class.

Will any work I uploaded to City Lit Google Classroom previously still be there when I reactivate my City Lit Student IT account?

Yes, any work that you uploaded to a course Google Classroom site should be available to you once you have reactivated your City Lit Student IT account.

Can I access City Lit Google Classroom resources for courses I did last term?

City Lit Google Classroom access is available for students for the entire academic year they are enrolled in, e.g. September 2025-August 2026, even if they don’t do a course every term.

If you did a course in Term 1 (September – December) with Google Classroom access, all the resources for this will be available to you when you reactivate your City Lit Student IT account, as well as any subsequent courses you enrol on with Google Classroom access.

We cannot provide access to City Lit Google Classroom sites for students who are not enrolled with us in the current academic year, and your access to Google Classroom will automatically finish at the end of each academic year. This does not apply to courses that span more than one academic year.

How do I get support if I’m having difficulty accessing City Lit Google Classroom?

We have provided step by step guidance on how to activate your City Lit Student IT account to gain access to any Google Classroom sites enabled for your course. You can find the information about how to enable this on our Help Centre, on the Your City Lit Student IT account page.

Can I access City Lit Google Classroom on all devices – e.g., smart phone and computer?

Yes, once you have activated your City Lit Student IT account you can access any Google Classroom sites available to you from smart phone or computer devices.

Can I access Google Classroom if I am outside of the UK?

Yes, but only if you let us know if you are travelling abroad during your course so that we can give you access to google classroom from outside of the UK. To do this please complete our online form.

If your course is online you will still receive the email with the Zoom link to your personal email and it will be accessible regardless if you are abroad or in the UK.

Error: "You can’t use Classroom with this account"

What it means
You signed into Classroom with the wrong account.

Solution
You need to switch or add another Google Account. This can be done in three
easy steps
Error: "Class code not found. The code is incorrect or it may not exist. Please check the code and try again"

What it means
We couldn’t find your Class Code in our system

Solution
1) Try typing in the code again, the passwords are case sensitive.
2) Your Google Classroom may have been deactivated / archived if it from a
course that has ended.

Error "Couldn’t find your Google Account" or "Email address does not exist"

What it means
We can’t find your Google Student account in our system.

Solution
1) Check that you have entered your Student account details in correctly,
with your student number followed by @student.citylit.ac.uk
2) If you've just created an account, we need to activate it across multiple platforms. Wait for 2 hours; the system needs a bit of time to recognise you.
3) If the issue stays, submit a new support ticket. You're not alone; we're here to help.

Error: "AADSTS50105..."

What it means
You've logged in successfully, but you're not where you need to be.

Solution
Head over to classroom.google.com. That's where your learning journey continues.

Error: "Password Complexity"

What it means
Your password needs to be as strong as your ambitions.

Solution
Make sure it's at least 12 characters, mixing uppercase, lowercase letter, special characters, and numbers.
