Before your online class starts, test out your technology and make sure you have up to date software.
Here are our recommendations to get your started.
Make sure you have the latest version of Chrome, Safari, Firefox or Edge browser installed on your computer, laptop or other device.
Please be aware that Internet Explorer does not support Google Meet.
- Minimum of Windows 7, but ideally Windows 10
- Make sure you run all Windows updates on your machine
- Additional Web browsers installed in case one doesn’t work:
- Google Chrome - https://www.google.co.uk/chrome
- Microsoft Edge - Comes as part of Windows 10 only
- Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/
- Internet Explorer is reaching end of life; try not to use this
- Minimum of Mac OSX 10.5+
- Make sure you run all Mac updates well before the class
- Additional Web browsers installed in case one doesn’t work:
- Safari comes with Mac but you need to make sure you have updated your Mac OS
- Google Chrome - https://www.google.co.uk/chrome
- Firefox - https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/new/
- A microphone is normally available on laptops as standard, but if you are using a standalone PC, you may need to have an external microphone
- A headset is recommended (make sure it comes with a microphone) but not required.
If you do not have a headset, you will need speakers or headphones. - A camera is usually built into laptops and tablets, but again, if you are using a standalone PC, you may need to have an external webcam. Webcams often come with microphones built in.
