Grants towards travel, materials and exam fees

Each year, over 1000 students apply to the City Lit Student Bursary for help with course fees, materials, and assistance with travel and family care via the Discretionary Learner Support Fund grant, funded by the Government.

Are grants available for any City Lit course?

Most courses are eligible for some form of grant, here are the exceptions:

Online courses are not eligible for travel grants
Courses without exams are not eligible for exam grants
Courses that run for 3 sessions/days or less are not eligible for any grants
Materials grants aren't available on all courses, please contact the Advice and Guidance Team for more information

Who can get a DLSF grant?

To apply for a grant you be able to answer 'yes' to the following statements:

I am eligible to pay the concessionary fee, or can show I earn below the London Living Wage
I am paying the home fee (not an international student)
I am not currently in full time education
My course runs for 3 days or longer
I must complete my course to be considered for an award

Please note: if your course runs for 12 weeks or less, your travel contribution will be paid at the end of your course.

If your course runs for 12 weeks or more, you will be paid your travel contribution at the end of each term.

You will be paid a contribution for each session where you are marked as being in attendance on the class register

Grant payments given to support with materials costs are decided by the department running your course. You will only be paid a materials contribution if you complete your course. Your travel contribution will be paid at the end of your course. The only exception to this will be if the department running your course advises more than one travel payment should be given. In cases like this you will be paid a materials contribution at the end of each term.
