Welcome to City Lit
We hope you are excited about learning with us.
Before your first session, please read the guidance on this page. It only takes a few minutes.
1. Check the course outline to see what you need to bring or prepare for your first session.
2. Review the learning outcomes in the “What will I achieve?” section.
We want everyone to feel welcome and supported at City Lit. Our Student Charter sets out what you can expect from us and what we expect from you. Together with our Community Values, it helps everyone succeed.
What information will you receive before your class starts?
We’ll send you two reminder emails with more details about your course:
three days before your course starts and one day before it starts.
If you enrol on the day your course starts, you’ll receive an email shortly after you enrol.
If your course uses Google Classroom, your reminder email will include the Google Classroom class code for your course and instructions on how to join.
Please check your email, including Spam/Junk folders.
Arriving at City Lit
Most of our courses take place in our main building on Keeley Street.
Counselling and Massage courses may take place a few minutes away in the Wellbeing Centre in Kean Street. Please check your reminder email for the location details. You can find more information about our locations on this Our Locations page.
Your reminder email will tell you which room your class will be in. Sometimes we do need to change rooms last minute – when you arrive you can check the room number on the digital screens in the foyer by the lifts, or at reception.
The Help Centre page about Building accessibility includes a video with a walkthrough of the building highlighting key accessibility points.
What to bring
Please read the Are there any other costs? Is there anything I need to bring? section of course outline on the website to see if there is anything you need to bring to your first session.
Health & safety
Safety advice including fire evacuation and assembly points are available in a video on the Staying safe in the building page.
How will classes take place online?
Your live online sessions will take place using Zoom.
- You do not need a Zoom account to join.
- We’ll email you the Zoom link and password the day before each session.
- Each session of your course will have a unique link and password.
- For more help, see our step‑by‑step guide to joining a Zoom class.
Some courses also use Google Classroom, an online learning platform where tutors share course resources and communicate with their students.
Your reminder emails will include your student number and your Google Classroom class code to let you log in using your City Lit Student IT account.
- If you haven’t logged into your City Lit Student IT account yet, please follow our step‑by‑step guide.
- Once your Student IT account is active, see the Google Classroom section for step‑by‑step guidance (with images) to access your class.
The information and guidance videos on these pages will help you make the most of your online classes.
